Debora J. Abbott–Nuckolls received her M.Ed. from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland and her B.A. in Education from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington.
She holds two Montessori Teaching Diplomas: one from *AMI, the Association Montessori Internationale, received in 1993 from Montessori Institute Northwest, in Portland Oregon (now Montessori Northwest), and one from The St. Nicholas Training Centre for Montessori Education, in London, England, received in 1983.
Debora has a passion for the Montessori Philosophy and Montessori Education, especially for the young child. She has over 36 years of experience with Montessori Education. Her journey is as follows…
In 1978 she worked at The School for the Blind in Vancouver Washington, where one of the young students attended a Montessori School located adjacent to the schools campus. In 1979 she began working with the Head Start Program in Goldendale, Washington starting as an Assistant Teacher and working her way up to become The Education Coordinator and Head Teacher. This Head Start Program used The Montessori Philosophy as the foundational method of their Education Component and in the classroom. In 1984 she started working with and soon became the owner of Montessori Children’s School, LLC.
Debora makes an annual investment in continuing education. It is an integral part of her commitment to maintain a high quality program for the children and families of our school. Attendance at AMI Refresher Courses, Montessori Administrator Association Retreats (AMI), North American Montessori Teachers Association Conferences, Montessori Northwest (AMI) Training Center continuing education programs and other relevant education courses, enables her to stay current. This includes at a minimum 30+ hours of continuing education.
Donna Smith: has 14 years of experience in Early Childhood Education and has been with our school since 2001.
Melissa Franklin: Melissa has joined our staff, and is raising two fine young men. She is now ready to continue her life plans, with the expansion of her educational background, by pursuing AMI Primary training. She has enrolled for the Seattle, Association Montessori International, (AMI) Primary Training course, for 2 ½ through 6 year olds, starting this summer. She will be attending this for the next three summers and is looking forward to broadening her knowledge of Montessori education.
All of our staff have First Aid/CPR training, Completed Criminal Background checks and all the health and safety trainings required by the Washington State Department of Early Learning, and training in the Montessori Philosophy of Education, AMI.
*AMI – The Association Montessori International was founded by Dr. Maria Montessori to maintain the integrity of her life’s work and to ensure it would be perpetuated after her death. The AMI diploma is respected worldwide. It is the benchmark for quality, integrity and the authenticity of Montessori Education.
Education is not what the teacher gives; education is a natural process spontaneously carried out by the individual, and is acquired not by listening to words, but by experiences upon the environment. The task of the teacher becomes that of preparing a series of motives of activity, spread over a specially prepared environment, and then refraining from obtrusive interference. Doing so one will be the witness to the unfolding of a New Person who will not be the victim of events, but will have the clarity of vision to direct and shape the future of human society.
